DGA Shines at Welsh Tumbling Championships with Medals and Champions

Cardiff was the place to be for tumbling this weekend, as DGA gymnasts took on one of the biggest fixtures in the Welsh gymnastics calendar.

The Welsh Tumbling Championships brought together talented gymnasts from across the country, and our team rose to the occasion with confidence, courage and plenty of club spirit. For some, this was their first time competing at this level. For others, it was a chance to show upgraded tumbles after weeks of hard work in training.

Across the weekend, DGA came away with a fantastic collection of medals, ribbons and Welsh champion titles, making it another hugely successful competition for the club.

A big step up for many of our tumblers

Competing at Welsh level is a major milestone. The atmosphere is bigger, the standards are high, and every gymnast has to manage both nerves and expectations.

For several DGA tumblers, Cardiff marked their first experience at this level. That alone deserves recognition. Stepping onto the track in a major championship takes bravery, especially when gymnasts are still building experience and learning how to perform under pressure.

The team handled the challenge brilliantly.

They showed control, determination and maturity throughout the event. Every run was the result of countless repetitions in training, small corrections from coaches, and the confidence to keep improving even when skills feel difficult.

It was also exciting to see so many gymnasts put out upgraded tumbles. Upgrading a tumble is never just about adding difficulty. It means building the strength, timing and consistency needed to make the skill competition-ready. It also means trusting the preparation when it matters most.

That made the weekend even more impressive. DGA gymnasts were not only competing, they were pushing themselves forward.

Balancing tumbling and women’s artistic gymnastics

One of the standout achievements of the weekend was how well many of the gymnasts adapted after a busy run of competitions.

A number of DGA gymnasts had competed in a women’s artistic competition the weekend before. That meant they had to switch focus quickly, moving from apparatus routines to tumbling runs in a short space of time.

That kind of transition is not easy.

The way they managed it says a lot about their commitment. It also shows the strength of the coaching and support around them. Competing once is a challenge. Competing well across different formats in consecutive weekends is something to be proud of.

Medals, ribbons and Welsh titles for DGA

The results reflected the hard work that went into the weekend.

DGA enjoyed lots of success, with gymnasts earning medals and ribbons across the competition. There were strong performances throughout the squad, from those gaining experience to those challenging for the top places in their categories.

Every award represented more than a placing. It represented the early starts, the long training sessions, the corrections, the courage to try again, and the support from teammates standing by the side of the track.

A special congratulations goes to Isla C, who became Welsh Champion in the Silver 11 to 12 years category.

That is a brilliant achievement and a proud moment for Isla, her coaches, her family and the whole DGA team. To win a Welsh title at such a competitive event takes quality, focus and composure. Isla delivered when it counted and fully deserves the recognition.

A special recognition for Gracie

The weekend also included a lovely moment of recognition for Gracie, who received her certificate for Welsh international representation at last year’s Loule Cup.

Representing Wales internationally is a huge honour. It reflects not only performance level, but dedication, consistency and the ability to represent a team beyond club competition.

Receiving that certificate during such a successful weekend made the moment even more special. It was a reminder of what hard work can lead to and an inspiration for the younger gymnasts watching on.

Achievements like this help show the pathway available to gymnasts who keep working, listening and believing in their progress.

Teamwork behind the performances

A successful competition weekend never comes from the gymnasts alone.

Behind every routine are coaches, judges, families and teammates all playing their part. DGA would like to say a huge thank you to coaches Tara and Jayne for supporting the gymnasts at the competition, but also to all the personal coaches back in the gym.

Their guidance helped the team stay focused, calm and ready to perform. From warming up to final checks before each run, their work made a real difference.

A big thank you also goes to judge Leanne for her time, expertise and support throughout the event. Judges play a vital role in keeping competitions fair, professional and positive for everyone involved.

The support from families also deserves recognition. Travel, early mornings, kit, nerves and encouragement all form part of the competition experience. The gymnasts could feel that support, and it helped create a positive weekend for the whole club.

Another proud weekend for DGA

The Cardiff event showed DGA at its best: hardworking, supportive and ready to challenge itself.

There were first-time experiences, upgraded tumbles, quick turnarounds after another competition, medals, ribbons, Welsh champions and international recognition. Most importantly, there was progress across the team.

Congratulations to every gymnast who competed. Whether they stood on the podium, earned a ribbon, completed an upgraded tumble or stepped onto the Welsh stage for the first time, each one contributed to a fantastic weekend.

DGA leaves Cardiff with plenty to celebrate and even more to build on. The performances at the Welsh Tumbling Championships showed what this group is capable of, and the club can be very proud of every gymnast who represented it.
