Back in March two of our development gymnasts, Olive and Violet took part in the North Wales squad trials. At the trial the gymnasts are tested on their strength, flexibility and skills to hopefully score high enough to be selected for the squad. Both girls worked super hard at the trial and tried their best all the way through. About a week later we found out that both girls had gained a place in the squad! Only 6 girls in their age group were selected from across North Wales. The girls will now train with the squad once a month.
A few weeks later we also took Olive and Violet down to the Sport Wales National Centre in Cardiff to trial for Welsh development squad. This was the first time for the girls to do this and again they tried super hard aNd beat some of their personal best in their testing. It was a great experience for the girls to be amongst some amazing talent in the home of Welsh Gymnastics.
After a nervous wait we were super proud to announce that Olive was selected into the squad. She was one of only 10 gymnasts in her age category to be chosen from across Wales and she will now train once a month with the squad in Cardiff. This is the first time for a Deeside gymnast to gain a place in the Women’s Artistic Welsh development squad. Also a huge shoutout to Violet for trying super hard at the trial. It is such a fantastic achievement to be chosen to take part in the trial and to also be a member of the North Squad. You are a superstar Violet!
We are super proud of both the girls and their coaches for all their hard work to get this far. Exciting times are ahead!
