In July, 7 of our tumblers competed at the British Inter Regional Challenge Cup finals in Birmingham Arena. After qualifying earlier in the year by finishing in the top 2 at the Welsh Championships, it was finally time to represent Wales at the finals.
Kita was first to compete, in the 13-14 years Level 2 category. Kita had worked extremely hard to improve her tumbling and it most certainly paid off. She performed some fantastic run including a full twist to stick, earning her first position for her final tumble. She finished 15th overall in Great Britain. An amazing achievement in a very strong category.
Day 2 of the competition started with Freya in the Level 3 under 15s category. After a difficult run up to the competition, Freya put her all into her tumbles and completed 3 fantastic, clean runs. She finished a brilliant 12th overall in Great Britain. This was a big step up to a higher level for Freya and we are so proud of how she carried herself on competition day.
Next up was Lincoln. This was his first British finals at just 9 years old. He kept calm and composed in the big arena and delivered 3 superb tumbles. After a nervous wait it was confirmed that Lincoln had taken the silver medal. His hard work in the gym most certainly paid off.
Guto followed Lincoln, competing in the Level 4 11-12 category. Guto's goal was to complete 3 clean runs and he did just that. Rising to the occasion, he stayed calm and delivered some of his best tumbling. He was very emotional when he found out that his hard work had paid off as he clinched the gold medal and became a British champion.
Also in the Level 4 11-12 category we had our girls, Ellie and Amelia. These tumbling twins supported each other all the way through the competition, even when it didn't quite go to plan. Both of them fought their way through the competition under immense pressure and performed some fabulous tumbles. Amelia finished an amazing 6th overall in Great Britain and Ellie became British Champion at her first ever British finals.
We finished the weekend with Gracie in the Level 4 13-14 category. Gracie stepped up to the highest regional level and held her own in a very strong category. She performed some fantastic tumbles and pushing herself to the limits to finish her competition. She placed a fantastic 13th overall in Great Britain. An amazing achievement for her.
We are unbelievably proud of each one of the tumbles who competed at the finals. No matter where they placed. They all showed amazing determination and gave it their all. Which is always all we wish for as coaches. They did themselves and the club proud with how they behaved and carried themselves on the competition floor amongst some of the best tumblers in Great Britain. Congratulation to them all.
We'd like to finish with a big thank you to Joy for being a great coach and support to the tumblers on the competition floor. Thank you to Jayne and Leanne for looking out for our gymnasts all weekend alongside work for Welsh and British Gymnastics. Jayne was selected as floor manager fr BG while Leanne was the team manager for WG. We are proud not only of our gymnasts, but to have such fabulous representation of our club at the event. Well done ladies.
What a weekend we had. Congratulations DGA.
